Medical oxygen
Medical oxygen is used for oxygen therapy, anesthesia, resuscitation, and emergency medical care.
Large and medium-sized hospitals are typically supplied with oxygen from a cryogenic tank. The oxygen is vaporized using ambient air vaporizers and delivered through a centralized pipeline system throughout the building. In patient rooms, wall-mounted oxygen outlets are installed, to which oxygen flowmeters and humidifiers are connected. The oxygen is then supplied to the patient through a mask or nasal cannula.
Smaller hospitals use oxygen cylinders and cylinder manifolds, which may be located inside or outside the building. They can be connected to automatic changeover manifolds or standard pressure regulators. Special wall brackets are used for safe cylinder storage.
Portable cylinders with capacities from 2 to 15 liters are used for transporting patients within hospitals and between healthcare facilities. Special trolleys are available for their storage and transportation.
