Description

Properties

Ferroline C8 (Ar = 92%, CO2 = 8%) is a welding gas, suited for MAG welding of plain (low alloy, low carbon) steel which is characterized by a small number of spatters, visually attractive appearance of the weld, small weld width, well suited for metal welding (up to 10 mm thick).  
Argon (92%): The primary inert gas. Ensures a stable arc and protects the molten metal from atmospheric gases (oxygen and nitrogen). Promotes good wetting and a smooth weld surface.
Carbon Dioxide (8%): A slightly active component. Enhances penetration of the weld pool (depth of fusion).
Improves arc stability while maintaining low levels of spatter.  It is used both for entry-level semi-automatic welding machines, with maximum welding currents up to 160/200 A (Sherman MIG-200HD), and for powerful industrial  MAG machines (LINCOLN POWERTEC I320C ADVANCED) with welding currents up to 600 A. FERROLINE is the group of gases mostly used for welding of low carbon, low alloy steels.

Specifications

Ferroline C8 is mostly used with welding wire types of SG1, SG2, SG3  (AWS/ASME SFA - 5.18, EN ISO 14341 - A) with a diameter of 0.6 mm to 1.2 mm or more, for example, MAGMAWELD MG-2 (d=1.0mm, 15kg)
Weld Quality: 
  • Produces a smooth, clean weld with minimal defects. 
  • Excellent edge wetting and well-defined weld bead formation.
  • Deep, uniform penetration due to the activating effect of carbon dioxide.
  • The CO₂ proportion is optimized to reduce spatter formation.
  • The mixture provides a soft, controllable arc.
  • Simplifies process control, especially for beginner welders.
To replace Ferroline C8 the Messer company has developed an improved mixture of Ferroline C6X1.
