Description
Properties and Applications |
Alloy 5183 is a special aluminium alloy solid TIG rod containing 5% Magnesium and 0.75% Manganese for improved weld strength and resistance to sea water. Alloy 5183 is used to weld forged and cast aluminium-manganese alloys where high tensile strengths and/or high resistance to sea water is required. |

REQUIREMENTS |
Commonly used on welding: marine components, cryogenics, and aluminium alloys such as 5083, 5086, 5456, to each other or to 5052, 5652 and 5056 |
Alloy 5183 was originally developed in 1957 to provide the highest strengths possible in the as welded condition of alloy 5083 and other similar high magnesium alloys. The more common filler alloy 5356, will typically fail to meet the as-welded tensile specification. |
Recommended for welding 5083 type material in the annealed condition, particularly for low temperature applications where good ductility and toughness are required such as cryogenic plants and boat building. |
